Mathematics Showcase
This is a showcase of the work I have done in developing mathematics education through the use of technology. Being a middle school mathematics teacher I am always looking for ways to grab my students attention and get them interested in learning Algebra concepts. With the advancement of technology and the use of it this age student is able to apply, this was an avenue of interest for increasing education. Incorporating some of the uses that students are familiar with and interested in to learn mathematics could not only boost interest and learning, but also allow some algebra study to be more conceptually based versus procedural based. This is a look into some of the work I have done with incorporating technology into the middle school algebra classroom.
Algebra Online Resource Library:
As a mathematics teacher it is important to allow students the opportunity to work with the material in a variety of mathematics. This resource library follows the threads of graphing, technology, and equation practice. Students are given the opportunity to explore concepts of graphing more conceptually. They are also given resources here where they could practice skills to better master mathematical content. Digital Story:
Some mathematical concepts can be difficult for students to understand. In this digital story I look into the idea of what type of number zero actually is. Throughout algebra classification of numbers are introduced. Not only is this a great way for students to gain an understanding of what zero is, it also serves as an example for students to create their own digital stories about a mathematical concept. |
Student Canvas:
The Lino website was originally created for the use of writing task on sticky notes and sending the users reminders. I re-purposed this website as an opportunity for students to explain in a different format their understanding of concepts within the unit of Expressions and Equations. Students have to show their knowledge while they are able to express their creativity through design and implementation of images and videos. Wordle:
This website allows text to be put into a creative design. It highlights the main threads or topics of the submitted text while also allowing the user the opportunity to change which words stand out, the layout, and color scheme. |
Prezi:
The option of creating a prezi to present material to students allows for the use of more animation. Instead of the basics of power point you are able to move and zoom in on certain aspects of the presentation. This allows the presenter to high light certain aspects of the topic while not being tied to simply flipping through slides. Students would be able to create these presentations to describe mathematical concepts to their classmates.
